Well, you just knew our Conservative government would put pressure on Craigslist to succumb to the American-push to censor sexual ads on Craigslist. It's not about 'human trafficking' just like Bill S-10 has nothing to do with 'tough on crime'. It's about the Conservative denial of pleasure and the restricting of personal freedoms.
I worry to about my friend, in her fifties, whose only source of income derives from ads she placed on Craigslist. What about all the thousands of independent women across the country who are now denied a safe place to ply their wares and a tool to earn a living?
Now, these women - especially the many older women - are placed in jeopardy. They will certainly not be receiving unemployment. Now their only alternative is to hit the streets, under very real danger of being beaten, robbed and abused at the hands of pimps and unknown clients.
Sure, there may be isolated incidents where the ads are abused but according to my friend, who was also monitoring the contents of Craigslist ads on a volunteer basis, those incidents are far and few; in fact she couldn't recollect any when I asked about it. You can bet it will be far more dangerous out there for the vast majority of women who used Craigslist. This censorhsip is overkill and not the way to solve serious issues with human trafficking.
