While Marc Emery rots in jail, people wring hands over Conrad Black

Many progressives have been harsh towards Conrad Black, the fraud who has been convicted of multiple charges despite a phalanx of lawyers and friends in high places. He really is that guilty. Then again, many other  progressives feel that he penalty was too harsh and feel sorry for dark lord. Almost all conservatives sympathize mightily with Black and love him all the more for his crimes.

Nobody, conservative or progressive, gives a shit about Marc Emery, who was sentenced to a similar term to Black's for merely selling marijuana seeds. Nobody was hurt by what Emery did. That doesn't bother progressives nor conservatives. What Emery did in the eyes of most folks was 'bad' while poor, rich Conrad Black is somehow deserving of pity.

Emery was given over to a foreign country by our government without a fight. He has no army of lawyers fighting to appeal. He is largely forgotten and defenceless while Conrad Black, because of his money and power, serves only a tiny portion of his sentence.

Black's wife faints at his latest sentence and is treated like the second coming of Princess Diana. Emery, on the other hand is forgotten, his lovely wife unknown and left to tweet her husband's travails in prison. Money can buy a lot of things, including the justice system. What it can't buy, as related by Jodie Emery, is coolness.
"On July 2nd, the band I am bassist in, called STUCK – because we are stuck in prison – performs live and amplified for the other inmates. We’re going to play Sunshine of Your Love (Cream), Johnny B. Goode (Chuck Berry), Red House (Hendrix), Little Wing (Hendrix), Tightrope (S.R. Vaughan), Voodoo Child (Hendrix), Star Spangled Banner (Hendrix, a solo song by lead guitarist Terry), and All Along the Watchtower (Hendrix)."

Marc Emery's seed selling netted him over a million dollars, which he mostly put directly towards campaigning for marijuana decriminalization/legalization.
But since that's a dirty fucking hippy drug, he deserved to be extradited to rot in an American prison cell for something that's not even a crime in Canada.
Conrad Black merely tried to enrich himself at the expense of others. Since that's what the vast majority of the rich & powerful do, they couldn't condemn him without condemning themselves. And since the media is owned by the rich & powerful, all you find is sympathy presented for him.
Besides, someday I might be rich, and wouldn't it be terrible to be rich and in jail?
