"Just like that, the English-Canadian Conservative coalition is cemented, coast to coast."

"...with barely a whisper of opposition".
This is Harper's first home run, bases loaded — and all the more remarkable because it isn't being acknowledged as such, yet. Conservatives are too busy high-fiving each other in their suites at the Chateau Laurier to crow. Nor would they wish to: It wouldn't agree with the image of virginal neutrality in which they impregnably cocooned this announcement. The NDP, deked out of their shorts, are sulking; the Bloc are gnashing their teeth; and the Liberals, in this as in so much else lately, are irrelevant.
The Cons, so good at conning the media and Canadians, do it again. It's pure political theatre without effort it seems. They are playing this to the hilt and nobody is saying boo. It's up to Postmedia to tell it like it is. That in itself tells you how this is bad news for us all.

(With apologies to Bob and Doug.)

I detest Harper and his goverment. However they did hit a home run this time. Sure they blew the F35 totally, sure they screwed Canadian shipbuilders by dropping tarrif on great lake freighters, and I could go on and on. But this one was well played policy wise, so no wonder its a political win. In fact there was no decision to make, only Halifax could make the warships and Quebec yard was not really in the running.

Harper knows how to do politics. Running the country not so much. But manipulating the message ... they're as good as Republicans. And maybe better.

Cute. But the banner pic looks more like a poster for NAMBLA.
