Dan Gardner just tweeted this:
Did Bob Rae really use the term 'alpine perch' to intentionally compare Harper to Hitler? I have a lot of respect for Dan Gardner but I wonder if this time he's stretching it a little thin. I did a quick Google search on the term and didn't find any references to Hitler, even hyperbolic examples.
Dan Gardner is at times inscrutable. Was he joking or was he being serious? Personally, I'd give Rae the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Alpine perch =Davos, Switzerland
Alpine Perch was taken from this Liberal News release.
“The Prime Minister’s attack on public pensions in his remarks at Davos
this week, coupled with past statements that his government may raise
the qualifying age for Old Age Security (OAS) from 65 to 67, make it
clear that this government is preparing to launch an assault on public
pensions,” said Mr. Rae. “Instead of bringing in the changes our
pension system needs to ensure sustainable prosperity, this government
is stripping benefits from seniors that they rely on and have earned.
This is completely unacceptable.”
.........
“He didn’t have to go to his Alpine perch to let us in on the news,”
continued Mr. Rae. “He should have told Canadians before the election.”

CONTEXT :)
Now, "Alpine Lair" I could understand.
Isn't Harper a Reformer? In his earlier political days, his party was, the Northern Foundation Party. This was in 1989. Sounds pretty shady to me. Especially when Deb Grey said, Harper is still a Reformer.
