12,000 BC students plan walkout Friday to support teachers

This is the kind of activism I really love. Grassroots students from Vancouver, supporting teachers against the Con-style BC Liberal government heavy-handed tactics, are planning a 'strike' of their own to support the underpaid, underappreciated teachers of this province.
They're signing up on Facebook for a protest at the Vancouver Art Gallery from 2-5 p.m. As of this morning, the Facebook page said 61,000 students were invited, 12,040 said they planned to attend and almost 5,000 indicated they might attend.
But not all students who are posting on the site are in favour of the protest, and one suggested it would be disrespectful to teachers to walk out of their classrooms. But that prompted another to write: "Believe me, the teachers are thrilled to have the students' support. You are not disrespecting, but instead respecting."
There we go with the social media again. Hoo-boy, you can bet the old fogies of the media are soiling themselves. First it was Occupy, then Anonymous. What will these kids be up to next? Heavens! Don't these kids of today know their place?

Of course, not nearly 12K will actually show up. No matter the number; it's the spirit that counts.

I'm decades past being a student but I will be there.
