| Old MacDonald had a wank |
I realize that modern journalism is like reading a cereal box; it is mostly advertising, for a political party (= Conservatives) in the case of journos, with some wow and pow but little of substance other than the sugar inside. Delicious. And this MacDonald guy really puts the pop in wankery.
I can forgive the headline. Those are usually written by some other flack. But that lede. Well, that's a thing of beauty. It's the rest of the article that stinks. The whole thing reeks of being just another one of those false equivalence commercials for Stephen Harper. It's also another one of those dirty-fucking-hippies-of-that-damned-social-media-are-to-blame whines, which seems to be the, yawn, go-to argument these days from old withered Con hacks.
And, oh yeah, Vikileaks = RoboCon. Gotta hammer that crooked meme one more time. Hey L. Ian, got any more Conservative talking points you can shove into one article?
Here's the essence of MacDonald's treatise: it doesn't matter what the Conservatives did because, well, they're the Conservatives and they can do what they want so fuck you.
Rex Murphy would be proud, not to mention Lee Atwater, Donald Segretti and Karl Rove. They're L. Ian MacDonald's kind of people. And Stephen Harper's kind too, I suspect.

Did MacDonald never stop to think that it's exactly because Harper won that these Robocalls are a problem. I was reading the campaign manager of the Liberals in BC today and he put it nicely. He essentially said that had the Robocalls not happened it wouldn't have made a difference. Ujjal would have lost Vancouver South, where this manager worked specifically, regardless. The point is though that this kind of thing shouldn't happen in a democracy and when it does, it should be severely punished.
Fortunately, with what we've heard from the former head of Elections Canada, this might actually continue to make headlines for some time to come.
L. Ian MacDonald has always been a shill for the Cons. He has shown himself to be devoid of any ethical sense time and time again. The Vikileaks could more reasonably be compared to the calls to Irwin Cotler's riding. The major difference is Vikileaks was true and targeted a nasty bully and the other calls were lies and targeted an honourable man. However neither were technically illegal while election tampering certainly is.
What bothers me most about MacDonald is that he is just one of an infinite number of Harpbots in the media. They just keep coming.
There is no equivalence between Vikileaks and RoboCon. The philosophy appears to be if you repeat this lie enough times Canadians will believe it.
Sure, Ian, it's just all in good fun. Who cares if real people get their lives ruined, as long as Harpo got his fake majority, eh? This old fart has the strangest definition of "fun" and "fair" that I have ever seen.
